We started the session learning about ancient trees…
The remainder of the day was spent building our own ancient trees to see if we could recreate the ecosystem.
We started with a ring of sturdy wood that had been cut down.
We then filled the outer ring with willow and ash. These were planted in the gaps and should regrow. The middle was filled with logs, bark, twigs and leaves. This combination of dead and living wood together with rotting matter should in time produce the same ecosystem as an ancient tree.
A lot of hard work from everyone involved. Some very wet people.
